The NSW Energy Savings Scheme
The NSW Energy Savings Scheme
The NSW Energy Saving Scheme (ESS) is a market centered mechanism which was established in 2009 under the Electricity Supply Acts 1995. The ESS was setup with a primary purpose of creating a financial boost by reducing the electricity consumption with the medium of encouraging energy saving activities.
The Energy Saving Scheme (ESS) operates effectively by placing obligations on NSW energy retailers and other large energy consumers which are called the ‘scheme participants’ by purchasing enough certificates to meet up with their targets or else they can incur legal ramifications.
The ESS provides a basic working conceptual structure for issuing out official authorisation to businesses, calculating the energy savings and crediting energy savings activities. Becoming an Accredited Certificate Provider (ACP) isn’t limited to a particular set of individuals or companies, but rather anybody or company can become an ACP.
To reduce the cost and increase the accessibility of energy saving activities, the ACP has to create the certificate and distribute the individuals participating in the scheme.
There are various lighting technologies used in this scheme;
Commercial Lighting
The ESS provides a method for up-front considerations based on energy savings from lighting upgrades that has been accepted at some commercial and industrial sites.
Commercial lightings energy saving formula is used to calculate the energy savings from already existing lights that has been upgraded. This includes general purposed building lights, lights for roads and public spaces and also traffic signals.
The ESS rules has specifications and requirements for the type of lights that should be installed under this method. Products which fall under the category of emerging lighting technology must be verified for use by IPART.
Home Energy Efficiency Retrofits (HEER) Lighting
The ESS rule provides a method for up-front considerations based on energy savings from lighting upgrades that has been accepted at residential and small business locations, including the replacement of inefficient lighting using the Home Energy Efficiency Retrofits (HEER).
The HEER lighting method could be used in calculating energy savings from various common Household and small scale business energy efficient upgrades.
PIAM & V method
This method requires the usage of internationally recognised measurements and verification principles to calculate the energy savings. It permits equipment level energy savings to be considered for up to ten years if persistent and confidence factors are used to discount initial certificate creation.
You can implement the various lighting schemes through reliable lighting companies such LED Lighten which has been certified by the NSW ENERGY SAVINGS SCHEME, for the installations of this lights.
